Qualifying For HUD Housing Section 8 Vouchers In Canton, OH

Waitlist and Application Process

The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waitlist is actively managed online. Prospective applicants are encouraged to visit the SMHA website at www.starkmha.org and navigate to the 'Apply Here' section for access to the online application portal. This streamlined, electronic pre-application process negates the necessity for in-person applications at our office. However, for individuals without internet access, two computers are available on-site.

The waitlist for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher is scheduled to open at 8:00 AM on May 1st, available 24/7, until June 15th at 4:30 PM. Please note, these dates are subject to change; hence, we advise periodically checking the SMHA website around these dates for the most current information.

Public Housing Application

Applications for Public Housing are accepted continuously, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The SMHA Public Housing Program comprises 2,516 affordable housing units under its management.

HUD Housing Low Income Tax Credit (LIHTC) Properties In Canton, OH

Listed below are the Section 42, LIHTC apartments in Canton, OH. LIHTC apartment rents are not based on the tenants income. Income credit set aside brackets are selected during the apartment credit applications are used to determine the apartment rents.

Tips To Get In To Section 8 Housing:

Local Rules: Each local housing authority has different rules around Section 8. Decide where you want to live and find the housing authorities in charge of those neighborhoods.
Applying for a Voucher: Contact your local Public Housing Agency (PHA) to apply for a voucher. They can tell you if they’re currently accepting new applicants and provide application details.
Payment Standards: Section 8 doesn’t specify a fixed dollar amount for rent assistance. Instead, the PHA sets a payment standard based on local housing market rates.
